We are happy to present a new version of The Ten Commandment Workbook for children. Originally, this book was broken down into individual booklets on each Commandment. These were used as a series of Bible class lessons for children in the Columbus area and for the Indiana/Ohio Bible Students Convention Children’s Program. To make reproduction simpler, and to make the design more appealing to children, we have compiled the lessons into one large book. We pray that this endeavor to make the work available to more children will serve as an instrument of God’s blessing to them. And, in an effort to honor our Heavenly Father, a review committee of several elders from many ecclesias have submitted approval of these lessons as harmonious with the harvest message.
We have a few suggestions which might help enhance the value of the lessons. Although the Ten Commandments were given to the Nation of Israel, and not to Christians or other nations, there are still many beautiful lessons to be gleaned from each, which all fall under the “Law of Love” given to the Christian by Jesus. In this workbook, this concept is pointed out, and we encourage that it be emphasized to the children. Thus, the primary emphasis of this book is to not only familiarize children with each Commandment, but also, to point out various character lessons appropriate to Christian growth as illustrated in each Commandment.
The lessons were shared with ages five through ten and were well accepted, however, it might be better for parents and teachers to determine the age, depending on the child. We encourage parents and teachers to have children look up Scriptures to support the lessons. We also suggest that even if the lessons are covered in Bible class, parents should also go through these with their children. This way the process of learning and respect will revert back to the parent.
We present this book with the hope that our children might be fortified for the times ahead. Children are fertile ground for planting the seeds of truth and righteousness. Many of them may walk hand in hand with the Ancient Worthies in bringing the world of mankind up the Highway of Holiness. Let us do what we can to prepare them for this. And if the Lord calls them to a position in the body of Christ, let us rejoice that we have witnessed His truth to them, and He has provided the increase.
With Sincere Christian Love,
Your Brethren in Christ,
The Associated Bible Students of Central Ohio
